Be nice to your bridesmaids

August 8, 2009

It used to be that no one wanted to be asked to be a bridesmaid. The wedding pictures that you look at from the 1970’s until the mid 90’s show the forlorn faces of some of the brides best friends. It looks as if they are saying to themselves, “I can’t believe I agreed to this, how could she do this to me!”. There were puffed sleeves, dresses full of tulle and pinned on flowers, even some that look like you belong in the south in the year 1850.

Boy have those days changed now! Ofcourse, once and a while you do see some maids with yucky dresses walking down the aisle, but for the most part, the dresses have come a looonnnngg way! When you go to a store like David’s Bridal, you will see that they have such a wide variety of dresses now. Dresses of different lengths, an array of colors, different fits and flares. You can even take into account the size and shape of your bridesmaids or maid of honor, and find a look that works for everyone. Remember, be nice to your bridesmaids.. They are the ones planning your showers :))

planning a great wedding shower

August 4, 2009

Planning a wedding shower is A LOT of work. Trust me, I know! It is very important for the bride to get together with her family and friends before the big day, and celebrate her upcoming nuptuals. It gets overwhelming when trying to pick a theme, find some good games to play, etc. So I am here to help. I am going to narrow some selections down for you! Before you do anything, you need to get those invitations out at least 2 months before the shower, and get the rsvp’s by at least 1 month before.
Depending on if the bride has any unique characteristics, likes, or a background that is very important to her.. you may want to pick a theme. You could do a 1940’s shower, or a luau themed shower, even a shower inspired by her heritage. It shows how much thought you have put into making her happy on that day.
After you have done this, it’s time to pick out some fun games such as, how well do you know the bride, or how well does the bride know the groom (that’s a fun one).. and many more!

Being the best maid of honor you can be

August 4, 2009

You may have really wanted that maid of honor title, but were you really prepared for ALL the responsibilities that come along with that honor? If you were selected, the bride obviously really loves you and trusts you implicitley. You are basically to be her right hand through the wedding planning process! Here is the long list of jobs you are to do. You must first attend and plan all showers (along with the bridesmaids), help to address and mail all the invitations, Make sure all of the bridesmaids know when their fittings, hair appts, and rehursals are. This can be the difficult part since everyone has such busy schedules nowadays!! You must make a list of all the gifts the bride recieves at the shower, as well as who gave them (they will be needed for thank you cards later). At the ceremony, you will be standing up with the bride, helping her with her train, holding her boquet, signing the marriage certificate, and see that the brides gown is taken care of after she flits off to her honeymoon. WOW that’s a lot of work to help someone else get married :))

outdoor wedding ideas

August 4, 2009

Having an outdoor wedding is such a great idea on so many levels. It gives your guests a very casual and comfortable feeling. It also allows for much less travel time (important, especially if your guests are coming a long way. Outdoor weddings also save a ton of money, because you are having your wedding and your reception in the same location… Paid once in full! There are some things you do have to consider when having an outdoor wedding however. It has many benefits, but you just can’t fortell the weather. You should always have a backup plan.. a tent, an indoor location you could go into if need be. Something to make sure your big day goes off without a seam. You should always make sure you know what time the sun is going to set, and which direction the sun will be coming from, so your guests aren’t facing directly into it. If you can pull off an outdoor wedding, it is one of the most beautiful and memorable events!

Don’t Start Your Marriage in Debt

August 2, 2009

It never ceases to amaze me how a young couple will start their life together with a wedding that equates in cost to the purchase of a house. And while it traditionally is considered the financial responsibility of the bride, that is not always the case in modern times. Many families these days are splitting the cost, or the couple is springing for it themselves. In any case, a beautiful wedding does not have to cost a small fortune. I helped plan my sister’s wedding and the total cost, including the dress, was around $2,000. We had to put some time and effort into shopping around for the best deals on everything but it was well worth it. We also cut costs such as paying a hairstylist and hiring a photographer by asking people we know if they would help. We had plenty of ladies at our former church happily come forward. Also, we found the dress online. While it was secondhand, no one would have guessed it. And what minor alterations to the dress needed to be done, another lady from church helped with those. Despite all of the frugality involved, when her special day came, you would have thought we had spent considerably more than we did. So you can still have that dream wedding without breaking the bank.

Picking the perfect dress

August 2, 2009

No matter what shape or size you are, every woman dreams of looking like perfection when she imagines herself walking down the aisle. Guess what!! It is absolutley 100% possible.
No woman has the same body, but their are some guidelines to go by. We can really narrow it down to a couple of shapes- hourglass, pear shaped, apple shaped, and triangle. For that fortunate girl who has a perfect hourglass, something with a corset or an accentuated waist is definitley the way to go. Someone who is more of a pear, with wider hips, a dress that flares out on the bottom (an A line dress) would be a good way to go. It will accentuate your narrow upper half, while disguising your bottom. An apple shape could go for something with more of a dropped waist, and very fitted on top. This is very flattering. Finally, a triangular shape (someone with broader shoulders and a small waist) would want to try out something perhaps with capped sleeves, or some kind of thicker strap. Everyone CAN look beautiful on their special day!
