A Marriage of west vs. a marriage of east

July 21, 2009

Why do we marry? To find an outlet for our physical and emotional needs. Or we marry to produce off springs that will carry our surnames forward. Any which way one might look at it, but the fact remains that marriage is indeed a very important event in am individual’s life. And since there is lot of social acceptance attached to it; people normally try to keep their marriage intact.

In western countries, marriage is mostly an individual phenomenon, where 2 individual’s tie the knot and take vows to carry their journey forward hand-in-hand. While in east, marriages are more of a family phenomenon, where the entire families from the girl’s and boy’s side become involved in a relationship building process. The outcome therefore is a more strong social and emotional bonding that is not easily broken by the girl and the boy. Probably that is why, marriages in east have a higher survival rate than the marriages in west.
