Fariy Tale Wedding On A Shoestring

July 10, 2009

My youngest daughter got married last August. She was 29 years old and had been planning her wedding in her mind since she was 6. Money was tight, but I wanted to give her the nicest day, one she would look back to fondly.

We decided to have a wedding outdoors, at the reception hall. It was a beautiful day weather wise, so everything went well. After the actual ceremony the whole wedding party walked across the field, and took pictures in front of the lake and in the gazebo. The bulk of the pictures were taken before the wedding, so the bride and groom and wedding party walked right into the reception minutes after the ceremony. The guests really appreciated this, and it gave more time to eat and celebrate.

She and her fience took one dancing lesson the week before the wedding and looked like a prince an princess on the dance floor. I would strongly recommend this, everyone was impressed and said how nice they looked.

I feel the most important aspect of the reception is the music, we did not scrimp on this. We had the best DJ, he played exactly what she wanted, and kept things moving smoothly. We met with him twice before the wedding.

We had the meal, with the soup and salad first. We could not afford an open bar, but a bottle of wine was placed on every table. The cake was not only pretty, but delicious. People noticed. I would suggest tasting the cake before you order it, we did and it was a fun day. The favors were ordered with the cake, and they were delicious chocolates. No fuss no muss.

Lastly her dress was exquisite. The important thing there is not how it looks on the hangor, but how it fits. This one fit like a glove. We spent a little more than we wanted on the dress, but it almost brought tears to my eyes when I saw her in it.

Well it is almost a year now, her husband and she are very happy. Hopefully I will be planning a baby shower next year at this time. By the way we did it all for under $7000.00, but it was a fariy tale wedding.
