The right age to marry
June 29, 2009
The question of whether to marry early or marry late has been endlessly debated for many years, and more so because there is no conclusive right or wrong in this regard. Many cultures, especially in West Asia and India tend to marry females at a very early age, in fact as soon as they reach puberty. To prevent child marriages, some countries have legislated the minimum marriage age as 18.
The marriage age of males is generally higher than females across all cultures, but here the norm varies from country to country. In Egypt for instance, where females are married off at an early age, it is common for men to marry only in their 30’s. The spread of modern society where females have also started becoming career oriented have raised the marriage age of women also to 24 and beyond, especially in urban communities.
An analysis of history reveals that with the passage of generations, humans are slowly but surely delaying marriages.
