IIT

IIT stands for Indian Institute of Indian technology. Its a series of 13 colleges spread all through India. And receiving high fundings, they offer the best education in the country at really low rates. an IITian, as their graduates are called, don’t have to go looking for jobs. Demands are so high. But unfortunately, an average Indian cannot hope to enjoy the benefits of these colleges.

Admissions are based on entrance examinations, which are unbelievably tough. Its not just a matter of IQ, but also practice. Nobody can think and answer the questions. Its more like by hearting. Exams are for chemistry, physics and maths. And thinking about the answer is highly discouraged, as people are more inclined towards answering questions of a specific model instead of individual ones. That is, they go to coaching centers and would have done all sorts of problems the people putting the questions can ever imagine!

And these coaching centers doesn’t come cheap. they demand high fees and make the students work against the clock. People here are ready to study for 10-12 hours a day! (I can’t do that!) In the end, people who manage to get into the institution are not at all creative. For them, the entrance examinations are the end. So many lose interest in learning once they get into the most prestigious institution in the country.

Considering these situations, the authorities have decided to ease the examinations a bit so that above average students with NO coaching can win a seat. But the problem is, there are three hundred thousand students writing the exams annually and only FIVE THOUSAND makes it into the final list! No wonder people are still going mad behind coaching centers. I believe India has to adopt a complete change in the teaching methods. The current methods here are ‘producing’ professionals like they produce things in factories. they do whatever they are told of, but fail miserably when it comes to using their creativity.
