Wedding cake is often so expensive. I have seen cakes that people have paid $400 for. To me that seems very pricey. Sure they are pretty and taste wonderful, but you can cut the cost if you do some of the work yourself. Here is how.
Order a small wedding cake that you and your husband will be able to cut. Then decide on other desserts you may want. If you have your heart set on cake, consider cupcakes. You can make the cupcakes at home by yourself, saving you lots of money.
If you do not care for cake, make mini cheesecakes. Or even full sized ones. Or make a few pans of brownies yourself and a variety of cookies. It is not written anywhere that you have to have cake. Go with what you like. It is your special day, make it more special with desserts that you and your husband like.
