I saw this today on Wedding Bureau Photographer Blog and it deals with a touchy topic… how to politely request cash, instead of tea towels and cake stands.

As more couples marry later in life, and often live together first, they don’t need household items as wedding gifts. Your friends and family don’t want to buy you gifts you won’t use, but it can be a bit awkward asking for cash gifts.

In this situation, a diplomatic maid-of-honor or best man can let guests know that you don’t need a blender but you are saving for a down payment. Or you can ask – politely – for your wedding gifts to be contributions to your honeymoon instead.
