What To Do 12 Months Before The Wedding

12 months before your wedding, you’ll need to pick your overall wedding theme. Sit down with your fiancé and talk about how many guests you’ll be having and what your budget will be. Is he from a large family, where dozens of cousins will be hurt if they’re excluded? Or would he prefer a smaller destination wedding? Who does he want in the wedding party? Will your ceremony and reception be held in the same place?

This is also a good time to talk to your mother and future mother-in-law about their hopes for your wedding. Do some scouting work now, while your plans are still vague, so you know their priorities. Maybe your mom wants a sit-down dinner, or your new mother-in-law knows a great florist. You don’t have to take all their advice, but listen to it. Later on, you may be able to avoid strain by remembering what’s most important to your mom and his mom, and compromising there.
