Provincetown

September 19, 2008

Phone conversation with Allison tonight. Friends of ours got married on the Cape this weekend, and I’d already talked to Eric, who’d officiated the ceremony as a temporary
justice of the peace, about the wedding. But when girls talk about
bridal gowns, they need more and different adjectives than engineers
like Eric like to give. (Although, Eric did have a short description of
the gown, when I’d been expecting him to say “it was a dress”). Allison
is one of my UMass crowd, but now she and her husband live in Texas, so they combined the trip to the wedding with a Mass vacation.

Allison: … and then we went to Provincetown.

Meg: Did you go to all the bookstores?

Allison: And all the sex shops.

Meg: We have different priorities.

Allison: I said “and”!

Save the Date Cards

September 19, 2008

Save the date cards have become very popular in recent years. These are basically invitations sent out before the invitations. They give basic information such as the name of the bride and groom, the date and the location. Save the date cards are meant to give your guests advanced notice of your wedding day so that they can go ahead and put you on their calendars. Save the date cards should be sent out at least 6 months prior to the wedding, even farther ahead of time if you are having a wedding in another country or if people will have to travel far in order to give them the chance to not only plan but save up the money to attend.

Save the date cards are not as formal as the actual wedding invitations. Because save the date cards are not as formal as wedding invitations you can make them a little fun or they could be as simple as a postcard. Save the date cards do not even have to be in the wedding colors though it would help to tie everything together.

It is also important to add that the actual wedding invitation will be sent in the future with more details. Some people may misunderstand and think that the save the date card is the invitation and then call and ask for more details. You may also want to put hotel and resort information on the save the date cards so that your guests can reserve their rooms early.

Save the date cards may be a new addition to the wedding event but it is sure to become a tradition at all weddings.

Budget Centerpieces for Your Reception

September 18, 2008

It doesn’t take much for the wedding budget to get out of hand and there are many areas we would rather splurge on than what sits in the center of our reception tables but you can save yourself some money with these great ideas for wedding centerpieces.

Flowers
Flowers make excellent wedding centerpieces, especially when real. Real flowers will not only look great but will smell great as well. Real flowers work best for spring weddings when everyone’s gardens are overflowing. You may find that growing your own flowers and using flowers from the yards of your friends and family is much cheaper, and more beautiful, than using artificial flowers.
Wedding Centerpieces
Cupcakes
A great way to save money on both your cake and your wedding centerpieces is to combine the two. Keep a small cake for the bride and groom to cut then place cupcakes on the reception tables. Cupcakes can be much cheaper than a cake and often cut down on the waste of a large wedding cake. Cupcakes are also easier to bake yourself if you need to save even more money.

Peas and Candles
Another wedding centerpiece that is easy to make yourself, and costs very little, is to use candles and dried peas. Ask everyone you know if you can borrow the glass vases that everyone gets flowers in and seems to store in a cabinet. These vases can then be filled with dried peas and a candle placed down inside (the peas hold the candle up). This makes a very elegant look for very little money. While candles can be expensive they can be bought gradually before the wedding to spread the cost out or you could purchase cheaper candles for the tables and a few more expensive candles for the wedding party table.

Use these ideas for your wedding centerpieces and use the money you save for your dress!

No money for Engagement rings?

September 18, 2008

You found the girl of your dreams and you really want to marry her. Thing is you just have enough money for your wedding and to start your life together. You can buy an expensive ring for her but then you’d have to scrimp on everything else, and ou don’t want that right?

So how do you impress your wife to be, without looking cheap?

Opt for Birth rings instead of Diamond Rings! (Well, too bad for those born in April..)

How to organize your reception room

September 16, 2008

It is not easy to find a place to organize your reception room for your wedding, majority of the time the place has been reserved long time ago : months ago and/or may be years ago for famous place.
So it is very important, if you want your favorite place to be reserved, to organize yourself and to start looking the sooner than possible (better to start one year before so you can search in serenity). Don’t forget that the reception room should correspond with the style of your party, you should put in privilege the harmony and to avoid any kind of risky combination.
In practice, don’t forget that in some unusual reception place like museum, you will have some unexpected restriction that can cause inconvenience which should be avoided.
Useful information, take in account that you will need a minimum of half square per person for a standing cocktail and more than 1 square for a sitting reception.

An important day for a beautiful wedding cake

September 15, 2008

To organize a wedding, it s important to have everything perfect from the wedding dress to the wedding cake. Not only the cake should be a delicatessen but it should have a good desing and it should be delivered in time because it s delivered to early, the dairy ice cream can melt for example so it s very important to choose the right pastry chef. At the end, like a saying : without a beautiful wedding cake, not a beautiful wedding party.

Eating Time!

September 13, 2008

In any wedding meals are one of the crucial part to decide. You have to really detemine the dishes to be served and make sure that it will not have a negative impressions to your guest.

I remember one wedding that I attended. It was held in the late afternoon so everyone was expecting to have a dinner on the reception of the wedding but sadly we just have some chips, wine, and pita breads! Goodness!

If the couple make the wedding in the morning then prepare food for breakfast. If its in the afternoon prepare lunch, and if its in the evening make sure the food were for dinner. Don’t ever make the guest hungry unless you don’t want to get a good gifts from them!

Wedding Attire

September 13, 2008

I have been to different weddings and I always notice the attires of those who are attending the wedding. May it be the entourage or just plain guest. There are some that dress well and really looks make an effort to look good on that special day but there also some that seems lacking on effort. And once I saw these I called worst dressers I can’t help my self but grin and pitty for them cause I am so sure that it is not just me who notices them. So in just a piece of advice to those who are attending wedding please dress well. It does not mean that you are needing to buy new sets of clothes but be sure the colors of your clothes were matching and so was the shoes. Don’t wear something that will put you on the shame list unless you wanted to get the attention of the whole people in that wedding.

Perfect Wedding Gift

September 11, 2008

Attending on a wedding is really a pleasure to anyone but finding a perfect gift for the couple is one of the tedious task to be in. Some people who attends in a wedding ceremony just give cash or even gift certificates for the newlyweds cause they don’t want to waste thier time looking and finding the gift that would impress a newly weds. But did you know that giving gift certificates or cash is the perfect gift that a newly weds will ever received? Of course it is aside fromt hose that they wished to have and aside from those that they asked to thier godfathers/mothers.

Cash gift will allow the newly wed to buy what they really want to have and what they really need. Aside from that it will also allow the newly wed to have some finances since they both came from big expenses in thier weddings. This will allow them to have a small start.

Just be sure that once you decide to give cash as a wedding gift make it a big one or enough to make them eat for even just a day or two.
