The Eloping Alternative

May 14, 2008

Many of us women have had wedding fantasies since we were little girls. Visions of grand chapels, endless flower displays and of course that amazing dress have danced through the minds of most of us at some point. However, that isn’t always a reality for couples. Many things can play a role in your wedding day, the main one being budget.

More couples are choosing to elope in recent years. The reasons for doing so vary but the one thing that remains evidently clear is that it saves incredible amounts of money. Eloping is not just for drunken Vegas excursions anymore. With some planning and care, eloping can be even more romantic simply because your most precious moment is private.

It’s perfectly understandable that some women cannot fathom the idea of getting married without their entire family and friends present. On the flip side of that, there are couples who may prefer to marry without family present. Families may be opposed to the wedding or it may be as simple as excluding everyone rather than just a few. Eloping doesn’t have to mean your family cannot be part of the celebration. All of the money saved on a wedding can make one heck of a wonderful reception party.

Choosing to elope does not mean giving up that dress or perfect bouquet. It’s not about running away anymore to be spontaneous. It’s about cherishing a private moment and keeping it that way. So if you’re choice is to elope, get that dress that makes you feel like a queen and arrive in style to an after party that includes all of your loved ones. And don’t worry about hurt feelings. This is your day and it’s up to everyone else to understand why you want it this way.

Not all of us are comfortable with sharing our most heartfelt vows with a building full of people. And that’s ok. It’s your day.
