Wedding Website Cards

March 5, 2008

Are you going to have a wedding website?  More and more brides-to-be are setting up a site for online RSVPs, links to the wedding registry, directions to the wedding site and contact information. One wedding I went to had a forum to arrange carpooling (a great plan for limited parking and arranging DDs ahead of time!).

DC Nearlyweds talks about getting the word out about your site.  So what’s classier than a Facebook E-vite, but won’t put a dot-com on your embossed ivory-stationary invitations?

Wedding websites are pretty much standard now and are an excellent way to get information out to your guests. One question I see a lot, though, is “how do I let people know about my website.” Etiquette is evolving and it’s generally considered acceptable to put the website on your save-the-dates but still frowned upon to put it on the actual invite (rsvp card or info card insert is o.k.).

DCNearlyweds suggests inserts from Moo Minicards. They look great, but there’s no reason you can’t make your own website inserts, if you’re crafty and have a good quality printer. Another option is to use a cheap business card service to print up some inserts, use a lovely font and a nice wedding-related pic and you’re good to go!

Fruit and Flower Wedding Cakes

March 5, 2008

Two of my fav wedding things: Offbeat Bride and pretty cakes.

I love fresh flowers on a wedding cake, it always seems so classy. I’m a sugar fiend, I love almost anything you can do with icing. (I think I’m also the only person in the world who’ll eat the marzipan fruit off a Christmas cake.) But these cakes are a great alternative to a sugarfest, and the look is half laid-back summer bbq and half elegant restaurant.

What do you think? Would you do a fruit cake for you wedding? Stick to the traditional white layers? Pile cupcakes on a cake stand?

But You’re Married!

March 5, 2008

Newlywed Magnolia of WeddingBee talks about a strange post-wedding phenomenom. Seems like her new husband thinks she needs to worry less about her appearance now that she’s married.

Except now, when I whine to Mr. Magnolia about my favorite jeans being too tight, his response is, “But you’re married…” On our trip to Wal-Mart this weekend, I snatched up some ever-helpful Oxy 10, and he asked, “What do you need that for?”

“To help clear up my skin,” I replied. You can guess his response:

“But you’re married…”

I know that my SO would be not-so-pleased with post-wedding sloppiness, but more importantly, I think I would be displeased! Maybe I’ll worry less about date clothes, but I don’t intend to look like a slob with a wedding ring!  I don’t brush my hair/look after my skin/wear nice clothes solely to attract a mate, so why would I stop after getting married?

And I don’t expect my future husband to let himself go, either! Maybe we should talk about that now…

Wedding Day Dreads!

March 4, 2008

LOVE the idea of looking like yourself on your big day, and keeping your own style.  Don’t get sucked into growing your hair/ losing weight/ completely changing your look.  In my own case, my future mother-in-law thinks contacts are a wedding day requirement, but I’d like to look like myself in the wedding pics and I plan to wear my specs and my gown.

On that topic, I saw a cool post from OffBeat Bride about wedding-day dreadlocks.   Those curly dreads would look lovely with flowers clipped in or tucked in.  I think crazy dreads and a traditional white (meringue-style) gown would make an awesome wedding picture.  If you have wild hair, show off your wild hair!
