Bachelor Parties

December 22, 2007

It’s important to discuss, with your fiance, your thoughts on a bachelor party. Some couples don’t make it to the altar because of what went on during these parties. The last thing you want is to be filled with resentment before your wedding or worse…call off the wedding with the person you love and planned to spend the rest of your life with.

Plans for a party should be discussed well before the wedding. Your partner should know your values long before this time and it shouldn’t be a surprise as to what is acceptable.

Often bachelor parties take place at a strip club. If this goes against your values, tell your partner your feelings. Your partner shouldn’t feel pressured by his buddies to do something that goes against his values or would be disrespectful toward you. There are many activities that are enjoyable that don’t include looking at strange women undress and gyrate on your lap. That doesn’t celebrate love and the sacred union of two people on the path toward marriage.

Bachelor parties at strip clubs may be a common custom, but it doesn’t mean everyone has to do it. Do what you and your partner are comfortable with. Hold firm to both of your values so you enter into a new life together with the deepest of devotion and respect.
